How Your WildBlue Satellite Internet System Works
WildBlue links your computer to the Internet with a high-speed connection via one of WildBlue's two satellites. Your WildBlue equipment connects your home or small office at speeds much, much faster than a dial-up connection -- in fact, file transfer speeds can be as much as 30 times faster than dial-up**. A single 26" satellite mini-dish and a modem are all you need.
What You Can Expect from Your WildBlue High-Speed Internet Service
When you order WildBlue high-speed satellite Internet service, you'll be able to surf the Web for news and information, download music, videos and photos, and email and open large files - all in a matter of seconds. WildBlue packages are tailored to your specific needs, and each package comes with the capacity to handle your individual online activities.
So whether you download songs from iTunes, or pictures from your sister each month, there's a WildBlue plan that's right for you. Even our smallest package - the Value Pack - offers the capacity for 3,000 webpage downloads, 200 photo downloads, 300 video clip downloads, 300 song downloads AND 20 file downloads every 30 days! That's 7,500 MB of downloading capacity each month!

This chart represents maximum speeds that can be reached using WildBlue service during optimal conditions. Weather, latency and customer volume can result in lower speeds. See our Fair Access Policy for more information on usage thresholds.
Your WildBlue Equipment and Installation
Getting started with your WildBlue high-speed Internet system is quick and easy. A modem and a 26" mini dish will be shipped to your home, and your installer will arrive on your scheduled installation date to install them. The dish will be mounted to your roof or other exterior part of your home so that it has a direct line of sight with the southern sky. In some cases, the installer cannot mount the dish to your home, and will instead attach it to a pole mount on your property. This custom pole mount installation allows your WildBlue system to operate at peak performance without physical obstructions, but will require an additional charge.
Your installer will then run a cable from the satellite antenna, through a wall or floor into your home, and connect it to the WildBlue modem. Next, he'll connect the modem to your computer and test for a connection. Professional standard installation generally takes about 2-3 hours, and includes service for one computer.*
As with any satellite connection, the WildBlue system is slightly impacted by latency, which is a delay in satellite-to-ground signal transmissions. The WildBlue system was engineered to offset most of these delays, so you can expect a fast connection almost all of the time. However, WildBlue satellite Internet service is not recommended for real-time applications like VoIP (Internet telephone service), interactive gaming and stock trading, or VPN access.
